The on-ice fight that results in a manslaughter charge against an NHL superstar is fictional – but it’s only a matter of time before what is depicted in Superstar On Trial plays out in real time. The players today are so big and so strong that a single punch to the head could result in serious injury, if not death. The League has instituted rules to reduce head injuries, yet as former veteran NHL referee Kerry Fraser puts it: “How effective are these rules if we say you can’t hit a guy in the head, but it’s okay to punch a guy in the head.”
